Climbing 'Treppenhaus' (Staircase) on the Dachstein is a fantastic introductory alpine route, offering a rewarding experience with relatively moderate difficulty. Rated at grade 2+ (UIAA), it's suitable for climbers with some experience in alpine terrain or those looking for a guided ascent. The 'Treppenhaus' follows a natural staircase formation in the rock, providing mostly solid holds and enjoyable scrambling. The exposure is certainly present, but the route is generally well-protected with fixed bolts and belay points, allowing for a secure and confidence-boosting climb. The views from the Dachstein summit are, of course, breathtaking, making the effort worthwhile. Be prepared for changing weather conditions, even in summer, and ensure you have the necessary gear: helmet, harness, rope, appropriate footwear, and sufficient water and food. A guide is highly recommended for those unfamiliar with alpine environments.
