The Großer Priel Nordwestgrat (Northwest Ridge) is a renowned alpine climbing route on the Großer Priel, the highest peak in Austria's Totes Gebirge. Graded UIAA III+ (3+), it offers a challenging yet highly rewarding experience. This long and exposed ridge traverse combines extensive scrambling with steeper, more technical climbing sections, characteristic of the limestone rock in the area. Climbers can expect magnificent panoramic views throughout the ascent.

While not technically extreme, the route demands solid alpine experience, excellent sure-footedness, comfort with significant exposure, and good route-finding abilities. Loose rock can be encountered in places, requiring careful movement. Typically approached from the Prielschutzhaus, the descent usually follows the normal route on the mountain's south side. The Nordwestgrat is a true classic, appealing to those seeking an authentic alpine ridge adventure rather than a bolted sport climbing route.
