The Priel Traverse from Kleiner to Großer Priel is a classic and rewarding alpine route in the Totes Gebirge mountain range of Austria. Graded at 3 (UIAA), it's a challenging but accessible climb for experienced hikers with scrambling experience. The route involves exposed traverses, short rocky climbs, and potentially some easy glacier sections (depending on the time of year). Proper equipment including sturdy hiking boots, a helmet, and potentially a rope and harness for exposed sections is essential. A confident head for heights is absolutely necessary. The views from the summit of Großer Priel are spectacular, offering panoramic vistas of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The Überschreitung (traverse) itself is an unforgettable experience, connecting the smaller and larger Priel peaks and providing a true sense of accomplishment. Be aware of the potential for changing weather conditions in the mountains, and check weather forecasts before embarking on the climb.
