Overview

Grade: 7+

The Gutenstein Alps, early morning. The air was crisp, the limestone cliffs imposing. Our objective: 'Chien fatigue,' a notorious 7+ testpiece. The name, 'Tired Dog,' seemed a premonition. The approach hike was a steep warm-up, building anticipation. From the first bolt, the route demanded precision and power. It was relentlessly sustained, weaving up an overhanging section that truly lived up to the name. Each move was a battle against the pump, hands gripping tiny crimps, feet searching for non-existent smears. The crux felt like a desperate, lung-busting sequence, requiring everything we had. Reaching the final anchors, exhausted but exhilarated, the panoramic views of the Gutenstein landscape were our reward. Rappelling down, our forearms screamed, a testament to the climb's relentless nature. 'Chien fatigue' had certainly lived up to its name, leaving us spent but immensely satisfied with having pushed our limits on such a classic, challenging route.
