Übungstouren

The Gutenstein Alps are a fantastic destination for beginner climbers, offering numerous 'Übungstouren' – practice routes – around grade 2 (UIAA). These routes are perfect for honing fundamental skills like footwork, hand placement, and rope management in a relatively safe and accessible environment. Often, these routes involve well-worn paths and ample holds, allowing climbers to focus on technique and confidence building. Expect primarily slab climbs and short, easy traverses. Popular areas within the Gutenstein Alps for these practice climbs include the Peisching and Myra Falls areas. Remember to always check the weather forecast, bring appropriate gear (helmet, harness, rope, climbing shoes, quickdraws, etc.), and climb with a partner who has experience. A grade 2 'Übungstour' might seem easy, but respecting the mountain and its potential hazards is always paramount.
