The Hohe Wand Südwestgrat (Southwest Ridge) is a classic and highly rewarding multi-pitch climb on the prominent limestone massif of Hohe Wand in Lower Austria. Graded UIAA 5+, it offers a stimulating challenge without being overly committing for experienced climbers. The route follows the prominent southwest ridge, characterized by excellent limestone rock, varied climbing, and some wonderfully exposed sections. Each pitch offers unique features, from technical slabs and cracks to more moderate but airy traverses. The views throughout the ascent are spectacular, encompassing the surrounding Wienerwald landscape and stretching towards the Schneeberg. Reaching the summit after overcoming the route's challenges is immensely satisfying. Descent typically involves rappelling down specific lines or utilizing one of the marked hiking trails back to the base. The Hohe Wand Südwestgrat is an absolute must-do for any climber visiting the region, offering a memorable alpine experience close to Vienna.
