Overview

Grade: 8-

The air in Kosmos always feels a bit different – ancient, charged with silent energy. And there, etched into the dark rock face, was 'Černá dírka,' a foreboding name for an 8- test piece. It looked every bit the 'Black Hole' it was named after, a steep, overhanging line with notoriously small holds.

My first attempts were a blur of pump and frustration. The lower section demanded relentless endurance, but the true battle lay in the middle: a dynamic lunge off terrible crimps to a distant, rounded pocket. It felt like reaching for the void. On my successful ascent, I remember the precise moment. My body was screaming, forearms burning, but my mind was utterly calm. A deep breath, a final shake, and then I launched, committing everything. My fingers slapped the pocket, barely held, then locked on. The roar in my ears was just my own blood, my own effort.

Pulling over the lip, the view of Kosmos unfolded below – a landscape of ancient trees and distant peaks. The exhaustion was profound, but so was the exhilaration. 'Černá dírka' wasn't just a route; it was a conversation with the rock, a testament to what focus and perseverance can unlock. It's moments like these, pushing boundaries in the quiet majesty of Kosmos, that define the essence of climbing.
