The call of the Lost Tower, a solitary sentinel in a sea of rock, was irresistible. Our target: 'Sommernachtstraum' (A Midsummer Night's Dream), a Grade 6 route whose name itself promised an almost mystical experience. The approach was long, winding through silent forests as the morning light painted the rugged landscape.
From the first pitch, the route unfolded as a true classic. Solid sandstone, intricate sequences, and increasingly airy exposure defined the ascent. The 'Sommernachtstraum' lived up to its name – there were moments on sun-drenched slabs and through surprisingly steep cracks where the world seemed to fade, leaving only the rhythm of breath, the feel of rock, and the dance of movement. Each move was a conversation with the mountain, a negotiation of balance and strength. The key cruxes demanded precision and trust, but the holds, though subtle at times, were always there, guiding us upwards.
Reaching the summit was a profound relief and an exhilarating triumph. The panoramic views stretched endlessly, a reward for every strained muscle and focused thought. After soaking in the silence and the majesty, the descent began. A series of perfectly executed rappels led us efficiently back down the face, each rope pull a steady return to the valley floor.
As dusk settled, we walked back, tired but deeply content. The 'Sommernachtstraum' wasn't just a climb; it was an immersion, a beautiful challenge that lingered in the mind long after our boots touched the ground.
