Climbing "Weg der alten Männer" (Route of the Old Men) on the Rote Wand (Red Wall) is a truly memorable experience. Rated 7- (UIAA), the route offers sustained, engaging climbing on generally solid rock. The crux probably involves a powerful, slightly overhanging sequence around mid-height, demanding good technique and finger strength. The exposure is considerable throughout, especially higher up, adding to the sense of adventure. While the climbing isn't excessively difficult for the grade, the sustained nature and need for precise footwork make it a rewarding challenge. The views from the top are spectacular, stretching across the Lechtal Alps and beyond. Be prepared for a full day out, and consider the descent carefully as it can be tricky. Overall, "Weg der alten Männer" is a fantastic alpine rock climb for experienced climbers looking for a classic route on the Rote Wand.
