Rope Length: 50m

Let's talk about 'Unten pfui, oben hui', a classic Grade 4 (IV) route located in the aptly named 'Sektor OBEN' – or 'Upper Sector'. The name itself, meaning 'Yuck at the bottom, wow at the top,' perfectly encapsulates the climbing experience.

The initial few meters truly live up to the 'pfui' part. While not technically difficult for a Grade 4, the rock might be a bit scruffy, dusty, or simply less inspiring, offering somewhat awkward or less elegant initial moves that don't immediately fill you with joy. It's a bit of a scramble or a less-than-picturesque start, perhaps with a touch of vegetation or slightly less defined holds.

However, as you ascend, the route truly transforms. Around the halfway point, the 'oben hui' kicks in with full force. The rock quality markedly improves, the holds become more positive and enjoyable, and the movement flows beautifully. You gain height quickly, and the expansive views from Sektor OBEN begin to unfold magnificently. The top section is pure pleasure, culminating in a satisfying finish at the anchors, often bathed in sunlight, offering panoramic vistas that make the initial 'struggle' well worth it. It's an excellent route for a warm-up, a beginner, or just to enjoy the unique character that gives it its memorable name.
