The alarm shattered the pre-dawn silence at the hut. It was 2 AM, time for 'Frühaufsteher' in the magnificent Venediger Group. Donning crampons, we traversed the glacier under a canopy of stars, headlamps piercing the darkness. As the first rays of dawn kissed the peaks, painting the sky in fiery hues, we geared up at the base of the rock. The 'Frühaufsteher' (Early Riser) route, rated UIAA V, truly lived up to its name. The climbing was varied and engaging – solid granite slabs, precise cracks, and exposed sections that demanded focus and thoughtful protection placements. With each pitch, the views expanded, revealing the sprawling glaciated landscape and a sea of jagged peaks stretching to the horizon. Reaching the summit, the panorama was breathtaking – a well-earned reward for the early start and the sustained effort. The descent involved careful rappels and a long walk back across the glacier, but the memory of that perfect alpine rock, the crisp morning air, and the profound feeling of accomplishment made every effort worthwhile. A true Venediger classic, offering a quintessential high-alpine experience.
