Climbing "It's Hard to Be a Man" (grade 8) in the Vienna Woods is a powerful experience. The route, known for its demanding sequence of powerful crimps and precise footwork on the typically polished limestone of the area, lived up to its name. The crux section, involving a long reach to a sloping hold after a series of intense compression moves, felt particularly desperate. Every hold felt precarious, and the mental game of staying committed and trusting my feet was crucial. Even after clipping the chains, the feeling of accomplishment was immense, a testament to the physical and mental effort required to overcome such a challenging climb in the beautiful, green surroundings of the Vienna Woods. The whole place has this unique vibe, you are in the middle of nature, but you hear the sounds of the city at the same time. A well deserved beer at a 'heuriger' afterwards was the perfect ending to the day.
