Overview

Grade: 3

Climbing "Verschneidung" (Grade 3) in the Vienna Woods is a delightful introduction to Austrian alpine climbing. While not particularly challenging in terms of technical difficulty, the route offers a fantastic opportunity to experience the exposed feeling of climbing on natural rock. The Vienna Woods, despite being close to the city, provide a surprising sense of wilderness, and the views from the top of "Verschneidung" are rewarding, encompassing the surrounding forests and perhaps even glimpses of Vienna itself. The rock is generally solid, though some sections may require careful footing, especially after rain. For climbers new to trad climbing, Verschneidung is a good choice to practice placing protection as the route accepts a variety of cam sizes and nuts. It's a great way to spend a day, combining a bit of exercise with beautiful scenery and a satisfying climb. Remember to check the weather forecast before you go and always climb within your ability!
