Climbing grade conversion chart

Convert between UIAA, French, YDS, Saxon (SASKO), V-scale and Fontainebleau. Use the sport table for routes and the bouldering table for problems.

Sport climbing grades

V and Font columns on the sport table are approximate cross-system hints, not exact equivalents. Style and morpho matter a lot for boulders.

Frequently asked questions

What does UIAA 7+ mean?

UIAA 7+ is a solid sport grade — roughly French 6b+ (and often YDS 5.10d–5.11a). Always treat conversions as approximate; see the table above.

How do I convert V-scale to Fontainebleau?

Use the V and Font columns in the tables on this page. For example V4 is often around Font 6B/6B+, but morpho problems vary a lot by style.

Which grade system does climbing.place use?

Outdoor sport routes primarily use UIAA (with French / YDS / Saxon shown where known). Gym and boulder problems may use local scales — check the route page.
