Overview

Grade: 5+

Climbing "Operace Arktida" (5+) in Artemis Fowl's world would be a thrilling and perilous feat. The route, no doubt named with a touch of irony by some goblin prankster, would likely be found carved into an icy cliff face deep within the Arctic, possibly near one of the hidden fairy strongholds. The rock itself would be treacherous, slick with melting ice and prone to sudden avalanches triggered by sonic booms from Holly Short's reconnaissance flights. The 5+ grade would be misleading – the fairy magic permeating the area could cause disorientation, and the local wildlife, from cranky polar bears guarding their territory to packs of mind-controlled Arctic foxes, would present constant challenges. Even with the best human climbing gear, successfully summiting "Operace Arktida" would require resourcefulness, courage, and perhaps a little help from a retired kleptomaniac dwarf.
