"Der geheime Schwob - Ausweichkogel" on Ausweichkogel is a truly enigmatic route, graded a challenging UIAA VI. Nestled deep within the remote Ausweichkogel massif, this climb lives up to its name, offering a surprisingly hidden yet rewarding ascent.
The route is characterized by its exceptionally varied climbing. The lower pitches traverse solid, somewhat friction-dependent slab sections before transitioning into steeper, more exposed crack systems and occasional delicate face climbing on surprisingly grippy grey limestone. The rock quality is generally excellent, though a keen eye for protection is often required in the more technical sections.
Mid-route, a spectacular traverse across a seemingly blank wall leads to the crux pitch – a demanding, sustained vertical crack that tests both strength and composure. Beyond this, the angle eases slightly, offering exhilarating exposure and breathtaking views of the surrounding, wild landscape as you approach the summit.
Reaching the summit of Ausweichkogel via "Der geheime Schwob" is an incredibly satisfying experience. It's a route that demands respect, offers diverse challenges, and rewards with a profound sense of accomplishment and unparalleled alpine solitude. Descent typically involves a series of abseils down a nearby gully, followed by a scramble back to the base.
