Rope Length: 60m

Our recent ascent of the 'Wunder-Wuzzi-Wasser-Weg' on Ausweichkogel was an unforgettable experience. Graded a solid 5, this route truly lives up to its quirky name, offering a delightful blend of technical challenges and breathtaking exposure. The approach to the Ausweichkogel's striking face immediately sets the tone – rugged, remote, and inviting. The climb itself begins with a series of steep, water-sculpted slabs, which give the 'Wasser-Weg' its distinct character. The rock, a compact limestone, provides excellent friction, though some sections demand precise footwork on polished grooves. As we ascended, the route became more varied, intertwining sustained vertical climbing with exposed traverses. There's a particularly memorable section through a narrow chimney that requires a careful combination of strength and finesse, leading out onto a breathtakingly exposed face overlooking the valley. The 'Wuzzi' part of the name seemed to come from the intricate, sometimes almost whimsical, flow of holds and features, requiring thoughtful movement rather than brute force. Reaching the summit of Ausweichkogel was a moment of pure triumph. The panoramic views stretched endlessly, a reward for every strained muscle and focused breath. Looking down the path we'd just climbed, the 'Wunder' of the route became apparent – a perfect line through seemingly impossible terrain. This Grade 5 classic is more than just a physical challenge; it's a mental game, a dance with the rock, and a truly wonderful adventure.
