The allure of 'Die glorreichen Sieben' on the 'Breite Wand' had been calling for some time. Graded 6+, it promised not just a physical challenge but also a journey through a classic multi-pitch route in a stunning alpine setting. Our morning started crisp, the rock cool to the touch as we geared up, the excitement palpable.
The initial pitches served as a perfect warm-up, offering delightful slab climbing with excellent friction, allowing us to find our rhythm. The exposure gradually increased, and the views expanded with every meter gained, revealing the breathtaking panorama of the surrounding valleys. The real test, as expected, came with the crux pitch. A sustained section of technical moves on slightly overhanging terrain, demanding precision, strength, and careful route-finding. Each handhold and foothold had to be meticulously chosen, concentration absolute. Breathing deep, working through the sequence, there was a moment of pure focus where nothing else mattered but the rock and the next move.
Beyond the crux, the route eased slightly but remained engaging, with airy traverses and sustained cracks that kept us on our toes. The camaraderie with my climbing partner was essential – encouragement, precise belaying, and shared laughter at the anchors. Reaching the summit, the sense of accomplishment was immense. The panoramic vistas were our reward, a truly magnificent seven-pitch ascent that lived up to its name. It was a day etched into memory, a perfect blend of challenging climbing and unforgettable natural beauty.
