Overview

Grade: 2

Climbing 'Komínek' in 'Dolní stěny' (Lower Walls) is a classic and relatively easy route, typically graded as a 2 (in UIAA scale, roughly equivalent to 5.4 in Yosemite Decimal System). It's a great choice for beginners looking to experience climbing on real rock and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the area. 'Komínek' translates to 'Little Chimney' and indeed, the route follows a small chimney-like feature on the rock face. The climbing is mostly slabby with some easier chimney sections. Protection is usually good, with bolted anchors available in many places. Expect a few exciting moves in the chimney itself, but overall it's a very accessible climb and a fantastic introduction to multi-pitch climbing if approached as such. Remember to always check the current conditions and have the necessary equipment (rope, harness, helmet, climbing shoes) and experience or guidance before attempting any climb.
