AKW is a classic route on the imposing south face of the Eastern Fadenspitz. Graded 5- (UIAA), it offers sustained and engaging climbing on solid rock. The route generally follows a logical line through the face, with enjoyable sections of slabs, corners, and short steep walls. While the grade might seem moderate, the alpine environment, exposure, and potential for route-finding challenges require experience and solid climbing skills. Protection is generally adequate, but runners and a standard rack are recommended to supplement the existing bolts. The descent typically involves rappelling down the route or a nearby descent line. A successful ascent of AKW provides a rewarding alpine experience and stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
