The 'Alpenecho' route on the Gippel is a true classic in the Northern Limestone Alps of Styria, Austria. Graded 6+ (UIAA), it offers a fantastic multi-pitch climbing experience that combines challenging sections with breathtaking alpine scenery. The limestone rock is generally excellent, providing secure holds and exciting moves.
Climbing 'Alpenecho' typically involves navigating several pitches, often exposed, with the cruxes demanding precise technique and strong nerves. While the route is well-equipped with bolts in key sections, its alpine character requires climbers to be comfortable with multi-pitch climbing and exposure.
Reaching the summit after conquering 'Alpenecho' is incredibly rewarding. The panoramic views of the surrounding Hochschwab group and beyond are simply spectacular. The descent usually involves a straightforward walk or scramble back down. It's a must-do for any climber looking for a memorable alpine rock adventure at this grade.
