Climbing "Sundown Blues" (grade 7) in the Graz Mountains was an experience etched in memory. The route, true to its name, offered a melancholic beauty, bathed in the golden light of the setting sun. The rock, a typical Graz limestone, was solid and featured intricate pockets and crimps, demanding precise footwork and powerful finger strength. Cruxes involved navigating a precarious traverse across a blank slab and pulling through a powerful roof. The feeling of clipping the chains, overlooking the valley below as the sky bled into shades of orange and purple, was pure elation. A challenging climb that rewarded persistence and offered a breathtaking panorama.
