The Gutenstein Alps, with their limestone faces sculpted by time and weather, hold a certain magic. Among its many challenging routes, 'Tick-Tack' (graded 8+) stands out as a coveted prize for any ambitious climber. The approach was already a scenic warm-up, hiking through lush forests, the anticipation building with every step closer to the wall. The rock itself is a light grey, incredibly featured, with pockets, crimps, and the occasional gaston demanding creative solutions.

The route's name perfectly captures its essence. Each move is a delicate dance, a precise 'tick' followed by a crucial 'tack' to maintain upward momentum. The first few bolts led to a tricky traverse, demanding perfect footwork and core engagement. From there, the crux section began, a series of powerful, overhanging moves on small crimps. My fingers screamed with protest, but I held on, visualizing the next hold, committing with everything I had. A few hard pulls later, I reached a small rest, a precious moment to shake out and prepare for the final push. The last few meters were less steep but still demanded focus and precision. Clipping the anchors, I finally let out a triumphant yell, the panoramic view from the top a well-earned reward. 'Tick-Tack' is more than just a climb; it's a testament to the power of precision, perseverance, and the sheer joy of movement on rock. It's a route that will stay with me long after the chalk has faded from my hands.
