The first rays of dawn were just touching the peaks when we approached the 'Kleine Prossetwand', a formidable limestone bastion. Our goal: 'Kaltenkalk', a route graded 6+. Its name, evocative of cold limestone, promised both challenge and exhilaration.
The initial pitches of 'Kaltenkalk' offered intricate climbing on sharp, yet surprisingly sticky, grey rock. The 6+ grade truly comes alive in the route's middle section, a technical and exposed slab where precise footwork and a cool head are paramount. Each move demanded full concentration, feeling the subtle textures of the rock, trusting the small edges and friction. Higher up, the exposure was breathtaking, offering sweeping views of the valley below and the distant mountains – a powerful reminder of our vertical world.
Reaching the summit felt like an immense triumph. The quiet satisfaction of overcoming a challenging ascent, the wind on our faces, and the panoramic reward were unforgettable. A few well-executed rappels brought us back to the forest floor, tired but deeply content, already dreaming of the next climb on the 'Kleine Prossetwand'.
