Lake Garda, a true climber's paradise, offers an endless array of stunning limestone walls. Our recent adventure led us to 'Marija Queen of Speed,' a route graded 7+ that certainly lives up to its name. The morning started crisp, with the first rays of sun illuminating the rock face as we geared up, the excitement palpable.

The initial pitches were a delightful warm-up, traversing interesting features and building rhythm. But the real challenge awaited us in the middle section – the crux pitch. This 7+ felt sustained and technical, demanding precise footwork on tiny edges and powerful, dynamic moves on slightly overhanging sections. My forearms burned, the pump setting in with each clip, but the focus remained absolute. A final, desperate lunge for a jug, a clipped anchor, and a deep sigh of relief.

From that point, the route opened up, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the turquoise Lake Garda shimmering below and the rugged peaks surrounding us. Reaching the top, the sense of accomplishment was immense, a perfect reward for the mental and physical effort. The descent, a series of smooth rappels, allowed us to reflect on the exhilaration of the climb. 'Marija Queen of Speed' is more than just a route; it's a magnificent test piece, offering an unforgettable vertical journey in the heart of the Lake Garda mountains.
