The Akademiker-Steig on the Losewand in the Großes Höllental of the Rax massif is a true classic. Graded II+ (UIAA), it offers an excellent introduction to alpine climbing without being overly demanding. The route is known for its relatively solid rock, good holds, and consistent, enjoyable climbing. While not extremely difficult, there are sections with good exposure that add to the alpine feel. The ascent provides breathtaking views of the surrounding Höllental and the Preiner Gscheid area. It's a moderate, scenic climb perfect for those looking to experience classic Rax alpine terrain. The descent typically involves well-marked hiking paths, often leading back towards the Preiner Gscheid or a nearby hut.
