The 'Gratkamine - Loswand - Rax' (Grade 4+ UIAA) is a highly celebrated multi-pitch rock climbing route located on the Loswand in the picturesque Große Höllental area of the Rax mountain range, Austria. This classic route offers an authentic alpine climbing experience despite its relatively accessible location. The 'Gratkamine' (Ridge Chimney) itself is a prominent feature, giving the route its name and character. Climbers can expect a varied ascent, traversing well-structured limestone that combines slab climbing, crack systems, and the eponymous chimney pitches. The climbing is generally sustained at its grade, offering good holds and often spectacular exposure, especially on the upper sections as the route traverses the exposed ridge leading towards the Rax plateau. The rock quality is typically solid. From the summit, panoramic views across the Rax plateau and surrounding peaks await. The descent typically involves a pleasant hike on well-marked trails, often leading towards the Ottohaus and then down via a cable car or a scenic hiking path back to the valley.
