Tackling 'Somnium - Neunerplatte' on the formidable Neunerspitze was a long-held dream brought to life. This celebrated Dolomites classic, graded a stout VIII (UIAA), is synonymous with exhilarating and highly technical slab climbing. From the moment we set foot on its smooth, friction-dependent rock, every move was a study in balance and precision. The exposure on the 'Neunerplatte' is legendary, demanding not just physical prowess but significant mental fortitude, especially on the characteristically run-out sections. With each meter gained, the panoramic vistas of the surrounding Dolomites became more awe-inspiring, serving as a constant reminder of the incredible environment we were in. Reaching the summit of Neunerspitze, after mastering Somnium, was a profound feeling of accomplishment, a true highlight in our alpine climbing journey. It's a route that challenges, rewards, and leaves an indelible mark.
