The Rax-Schneeberg Group, a majestic limestone massif in Austria, is home to countless climbing adventures. Among them, 'All Pigs' (Alle Schweine), a classic multi-pitch route on the Bärenwand, stands out. Graded UIAA VII, it's a name that always brings a smile, but the climb itself is a serious, rewarding challenge. Our day began early, with the crisp mountain air filling our lungs as we hiked towards the base. The anticipation built with every step. The initial pitches offered enjoyable, technical climbing on surprisingly good rock. The highlight, however, was the crux pitch – a steep, exposed slab that demanded precision and focus. The views, even from mid-route, were breathtaking, stretching across the vast forests and valleys. We moved efficiently, communicating clearly, even as the exposure increased. There were moments of thoughtful problem-solving, but mostly it was pure joy, linking holds and trusting friction. Reaching the top, the sense of accomplishment was immense. We stood there, taking in the panorama, the wind whispering tales of past ascents. The descent was careful but uneventful, leaving us with tired muscles but invigorated spirits. 'All Pigs' delivered everything we hoped for – a challenging, memorable climb in one of Austria's most beautiful alpine playgrounds.
