My recent ascent of 'Ende der Fastenzeit' (End of Lent) in Sektor Osterinsel was a truly memorable experience. Graded 7+/8-, it presented a significant, yet achievable, challenge. Sektor Osterinsel itself is an impressive crag, known for its unique rock features and often stunning views. The route's name always brings a smile, adding a touch of playful irony to the intense physical demands.
From the very start, 'Ende der Fastenzeit' demands precision and sustained effort. It's a technical climb with delicate footwork sections transitioning into powerful moves on small, crimpy holds. The crux felt particularly intense, requiring full concentration and a solid dose of finger strength. There were moments of doubt, but pushing through, finding those elusive sequences, and trusting the friction felt incredibly rewarding. Reaching the anchors was a wave of relief and exhilaration, a perfect 'end of fasting' indeed, not just for the body but for the climbing spirit. It's a fantastic route, a true test of technique and mental fortitude, and one I'll definitely be looking to repeat.
