Climbing the Ostgrat (East Ridge) to Sonneck is a classic and rewarding alpine experience. Graded at 3 (UIAA), it's generally considered accessible for experienced hikers with some scrambling or easy climbing experience. The route offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding Alps as you ascend a prominent ridge. Expect exposed sections that require careful footwork and a good head for heights. While the difficulties are moderate, good weather is essential, as the ridge can become treacherous in rain, snow, or strong winds. The rock is generally solid, but checking holds before committing weight is always advisable. The climb culminates in a satisfying summit of Sonneck, allowing you to soak in the accomplishment and breathtaking scenery before descending. A rope and basic climbing gear might be useful, especially for less experienced climbers.
