The Ottenalm - Bergkameraden Klettersteig is a highly demanding Grade D via ferrata located in the stunning Austrian Alps, often accessed via the picturesque Ottenalm area. This route is classified as 'difficult,' meaning it presents sustained vertical and exposed sections, often requiring significant arm strength and a very good head for heights. Climbers can expect challenging traverses, steep ascents secured by steel cables, iron rungs, and sometimes short ladders or challenging slab climbing. The rock is generally solid, but concentration is paramount throughout the ascent. One of the major rewards is the incredible panoramic views that unfold as you gain elevation, offering vistas of surrounding peaks and valleys. After the exhilarating climb, the descent usually follows a well-marked hiking trail, often less technical but equally scenic. It is not suitable for beginners and should only be attempted by experienced via ferrata climbers who are physically fit and well-equipped with standard via ferrata gear (helmet, harness, via ferrata set, gloves). The 'Bergkameraden' (Mountain Comrades) aspect truly reflects the camaraderie and challenge this route offers, making it a memorable adventure for those seeking a true alpine thrill.
