The Ferrata Ballino - Cascata Rio Ruzza - Ferrata Signora delle Acque, rated C, is a truly scenic and engaging via ferrata located near Ballino in Trentino, Italy, close to the Arco/Lake Garda area. Access is typically straightforward from a parking area, leading to a relatively short approach path.
The route begins somewhat gently, traversing through forest before reaching its defining feature: the ascent alongside the impressive Cascata Rio Ruzza. Here, climbers are directly immersed in the raw power of the waterfall, often feeling its cool spray. The climb involves a series of well-placed iron rungs, ladders, and fixed cables, offering exhilarating exposure and unique perspectives of the cascading water.
The second part, the 'Ferrata Signora delle Acque' (Lady of the Waters Ferrata), continues this theme, presenting slightly more exposed sections but always with excellent protection. It offers breathtaking views over the valley and surrounding peaks, culminating in a rewarding experience.
Despite its Grade C rating, which signifies a moderate difficulty, the route is very well-equipped and suitable for climbers with some via ferrata experience and a good head for heights. It's not overly strenuous but provides ample challenge and excitement. The descent usually follows a well-marked and relatively easy path back to the starting point.
This ferrata is highly recommended for its unique waterfall experience, stunning scenery, and enjoyable climbing, making it a memorable adventure in the Trentino region.
