The Zillertal Alps on the main Alpine ridge are Tyrol's granite and gneiss paradise, with clean crystalline slabs, cracks and countless boulders – the Zillertal alone has more than 1,000 boulder problems. The best-known crag is the Ewige Jagdgründe near Ginzling, on the banks of the Zemmbach: towers and blocks 10–30 m high, facing south-east, with about 106 mostly well-bolted routes from 4- to 10+, ranging from inclined slabs to a huge roof. Higher up, peaks such as the Gschöss, the Knorren and the Stafflacher Wand offer longer alpine climbing in a high-mountain setting.
For the Ewige Jagdgründe, park at the climbers' car park on the right just before the toll station on the road to the Schlegeis reservoir; the approach takes about five minutes over a metal bridge, and the Berggasthaus Breitlahner is nearby. The crag is family-friendly, but it borders a cow pasture: close gates, keep dogs back, and no camping or fires. Valley crags are climbable from spring to autumn, the alpine peaks mainly from July to September.
