Asteroidy, what a name for a climbing area! The rock formations here always feel a bit out of this world, a lunar landscape of weathered sandstone. Today's objective: 'Hemeroid', a notorious 4+ that always gets a chuckle when mentioned. Despite its unfortunate name, the start of Hemeroid is quite inviting. Solid holds, a nice rhythm quickly develops. It's not a climb to power through, but to flow with. Around halfway, there's a short, slightly more committing section – perhaps a delicate traverse or a high step. It’s not hard, but it makes you think. 'Is this where the 'Hemeroid' part comes in?' I joked to myself. The rock is surprisingly grippy, offering just enough purchase. The final meters open up, offering a great view back over 'Asteroidy'. The top-out is satisfying, a feeling of accomplishment for a seemingly simple climb. 'Hemeroid' might have a funny name, but it's a delightful 4+ – a perfect warm-up or a relaxed climb to enjoy the unique rock of Asteroidy. It proves that even the most comically named routes can offer genuine climbing pleasure.
