Our recent climbing adventure led us to the charming sector of 'Babywood,' a place known for its accessible yet rewarding routes. Our target for the day was 'Maggiociondolo,' a Grade 3 classic whose name evokes the beauty of the golden chain tree. From the moment we tied in, the climb lived up to its reputation. The rock, a warm, textured limestone, offered generous holds, making the ascent a fluid and joyful experience. Each move felt intuitive, a dance on the rock rather than a struggle. The route unfurled steadily, a perfect example of a Grade 3 – engaging enough to require focus, yet forgiving enough to allow appreciation of the surroundings. As we ascended, the view over the surrounding landscape began to open up, the 'Babywood' moniker feeling appropriate for the gentle, welcoming nature of the area. Reaching the anchor felt less like an arduous victory and more like the natural conclusion to a delightful journey. 'Maggiociondolo' is truly a gem, a testament to how even lower-grade routes can offer immense satisfaction and breathtaking moments. A highly recommended climb for anyone looking for a rewarding day out.
