Climbing Via Gianleo on Croda Negra (grade 4) is a rewarding experience for climbers seeking a classic alpine route with moderate difficulty. The Croda Negra, or 'Black Peak,' is a prominent limestone formation in the Dolomites known for its dramatic appearance and challenging climbs. Via Gianleo offers a well-protected and enjoyable ascent, primarily following cracks, dihedrals, and ledges. Expect sustained climbing at around grade 4 (UIAA), which translates roughly to 5.5-5.6 in the Yosemite Decimal System. While not overly demanding, the route still requires solid climbing technique, good footwork, and the ability to place your own protection occasionally, depending on the route's current state. The views from the summit are spectacular, encompassing the surrounding Dolomite peaks.
