Climbing the Brandlochsteig (2+) on the Hohe Wand is a fantastic experience offering exposed scrambling and stunning views. This via ferrata, though relatively short and of moderate difficulty, provides a satisfying taste of alpine adventure. The rock is generally solid, with good holds, but a sure foot and a head for heights are essential. The route snakes through a narrow gully, the 'Brandloch' (fire hole), which gives the climb its name. Expect some steep sections and moments where exposure becomes pronounced, adding to the thrill. Upon reaching the summit plateau of the Großer Hochkogel, you are rewarded with panoramic vistas of the surrounding Lower Austrian landscape. The descent is typically made via well-marked hiking trails, allowing you to soak in the scenery and reflect on your climb. Overall, the Brandlochsteig is a great introduction to via ferrata climbing or a quick and enjoyable outing for more experienced climbers.
