Today, we had the pleasure of tackling 'Achternbush for President', a highly regarded route graded 8- (UIAA VIII-) in the stunning Gutenstein Alps. This region, known for its superb limestone and picturesque landscapes, certainly delivered. The route itself is a testament to clever route-setting, offering a demanding yet incredibly rewarding experience. From the initial technical slabs to the pumpy, sustained crimps on slight overhangs, it demands precision and endurance. The crux, subtly hidden but brilliantly challenging, required delicate footwork and surprising power, pushing the limits of our forearms. As we clipped the chains at the top, the sense of accomplishment was immense, accompanied by a breathtaking panoramic view of the rolling green valleys and distant peaks that make the Gutenstein Alps so special. 'Achternbush for President' is truly a classic – a perfect blend of mental and physical challenge, leaving us with unforgettable memories of limestone bliss.
