Gedenkweg

Climbing the 'Gedenkweg' (Grade 5) in the Gutenstein Alps is a rewarding experience for intermediate climbers. This via ferrata, also known as a 'klettersteig,' offers a good mix of exposed traverses, vertical sections, and airy viewpoints. The rock quality is generally solid, but some sections may require careful foot placement. While the difficulty is rated at Grade 5 (German scale), comparable to an Italian 3B/C or a French AD, it's important to have experience with similar routes before attempting it. Adequate fitness is crucial, as the route can be physically demanding. Proper via ferrata equipment, including a helmet, harness, and via ferrata set, is absolutely essential. Before embarking, check the weather forecast and be aware of any potential hazards, such as falling rocks.
