Climbing "Mental Funeral" in the Gutenstein Alps is an experience etched into my memory. This route, a burly 9+ (French grade), demands not only physical strength but also a considerable amount of mental fortitude, perfectly living up to its name. The rock is primarily limestone, often sharp and unforgiving, providing a challenging test of technique and endurance. The crux move involved a powerful deadpoint to a tiny crimper, followed by a precarious traverse across a slab. Exposure is significant, adding to the psychological pressure. Successfully sending "Mental Funeral" wasn't just about conquering a climb; it was about overcoming self-doubt and pushing my limits in a stunning alpine environment. The views from the top were a reward in themselves, stretching across the majestic peaks of the Gutenstein Alps.
