The Hexenstein (also known as Sass de Stria, 'Witch's Rock' in Ladin) is a distinctive peak in the Dolomites, prominently visible from Passo Falzarego. Its 'Südkante' (South Edge) is a renowned classic climbing route, graded at 5- (UIAA). This route is celebrated for its excellent, solid Dolomite limestone, offering sustained yet not overly difficult climbing on a beautifully exposed ridge. As you ascend, the exposure builds, and the panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, including the Lagazuoi and Tofane groups, are simply breathtaking. It's a popular choice for climbers seeking a moderate, highly enjoyable multi-pitch experience with the quintessential character of Dolomite climbing. The descent typically involves a combination of scrambling and abseiling down the normal route. A truly rewarding and memorable climb.
