Climbing the "Kavalleriegrat" on the Hochplatte is a rewarding experience, offering stunning views and exposed climbing on solid limestone. The route is graded 4- (UIAA) and requires a good head for heights and sure-footedness. The initial section involves some scrambling and easy climbing to reach the actual "Kavalleriegrat" (Cavalry Ridge). The ridge itself is narrow and airy, with some exposed sections where you'll be thankful for the fixed cables and iron pins. The crux pitches generally involve short, steep sections with good holds, but requiring some technique. Although well-protected, it's advisable to bring a few quickdraws and slings to supplement the existing gear. After the ridge, the route continues with more moderate climbing to the summit of the Hochplatte. The descent is typically via a marked hiking trail. Overall, the "Kavalleriegrat" offers a great alpine experience for climbers comfortable at the 4- grade, combining exposed climbing with breathtaking scenery.
