The 'Jahn - Zimmer' route on the Hochtor Nordwand is a classic ascent within the majestic Gesäuse Alps, leading up the imposing North Face of Hochtor. Graded 3+ (UIAA), it offers a fantastic introduction to alpine climbing or a very enjoyable day out for more experienced climbers. While not technically extreme, the route demands competence in multi-pitch climbing, good route-finding skills, and comfort with exposure. The climbing is varied, often following slabs, cracks, and chimneys, providing sustained enjoyment without overly difficult cruxes. Given its north-facing aspect, it can be cool even on warm days, offering a refreshing climb. The views from the summit of Hochtor are, as expected, breathtaking, encompassing the dramatic Gesäuse landscape. The 'Jahn - Zimmer' is a memorable alpine experience, combining moderate climbing with a truly grand mountain setting.
