Climbing "Kronjuwel" on Hohe Wand is a truly unforgettable experience. This route, graded 7+ (UIAA), demands a high level of technical skill, stamina, and mental fortitude. The Hohe Wand itself is a magnificent limestone massif, offering breathtaking views across the surrounding Austrian landscape. "Kronjuwel" specifically challenges climbers with its sustained steepness, requiring powerful movements on small crimps and pockets. Precision footwork is crucial, as many of the holds are polished from years of traffic. The crux section, often located near the top, demands a dynamic move to a distant hold, followed by a precarious traverse to a more secure position. Successfully sending "Kronjuwel" is a significant accomplishment, and the satisfaction of topping out on such a demanding and aesthetically pleasing route is immense. Beyond the climb itself, the atmosphere of Hohe Wand adds to the experience. The bustling activity of other climbers, the sound of cowbells from the surrounding meadows, and the sheer scale of the cliff create a vibrant and inspiring environment. Just be sure to pack plenty of water and sunscreen, as the south-facing wall can get quite hot during the summer months!
