Vierfreundesteig

Climbing the "Vierfreundesteig" (Grade 6-) on the Hohe Wand is a classic and rewarding experience. This via ferrata, whose name translates to "Four Friends Route," offers a mix of exposed traverses, challenging vertical sections, and stunning panoramic views. The route is well-secured with steel cables and ladders, making it suitable for experienced climbers with a good head for heights and the necessary via ferrata equipment. While graded 6-, some sections might feel more demanding, especially if wet or icy. The exposure is significant, particularly on the traverses, so confident footwork and secure clipping are crucial. The highlight of the climb is undoubtedly the breathtaking views across the Austrian Alps. After completing the route, one can enjoy the hospitality and refreshments at one of the numerous huts on the Hohe Wand plateau before descending back to the starting point.
