Rope Length: 70m

The Karwendel range, a majestic backdrop of rugged limestone, beckoned us on a crisp autumn day. Our objective: 'Shorty,' a notorious 6+ route, famed for its concise yet intensely demanding nature.

The approach wound its way up scree slopes and through sparse pine forests, offering increasingly breathtaking views of the valley below. As we geared up at the base, the impressive, slightly overhanging wall of 'Shorty' loomed above, its reputation preceding it.

From the first few meters, 'Shorty' lived up to its grade. The initial slabby section required precise balance and careful footwork, transitioning quickly into a more vertical, powerful series of moves. Small crimps and tenuous friction smears were the order of the day. The crux pitch, a sustained sequence through a compact bulge, demanded full commitment and a strong core. Every move was a puzzle, requiring a delicate interplay of power and finesse. The adrenaline surged, but focus was paramount, each breath measured, each hold carefully chosen.

Finally, emerging onto the sun-drenched plateau at the top, a deep sense of accomplishment washed over us. The panoramic views of the surrounding peaks were an unforgettable reward. After a quick rappel back down, we savored the successful ascent, already planning our next adventure in this incredible alpine playground. 'Shorty' is undoubtedly a true Karwendel classic – short, but unforgettable.
