The 'Spigolo Sud' (South Arête) on the Pilastro della Plote, a prominent pillar within the Kellerspitzen massif, is widely regarded as a true classic of the Dolomites. Graded VII (UIAA), this multi-pitch route offers a serious and sustained challenge, characteristic of alpine climbing in this region. The ascent follows an elegant, exposed line up the south face, known for its excellent rock quality – a mix of slabs, cracks, and steeper sections, often on superb, solid limestone. Climbers can expect breathtaking exposure and magnificent panoramic views of the surrounding Sexten Dolomites, including the iconic Tre Cime di Lavaredo. It demands good alpine experience, solid technique, and mental fortitude. The descent typically involves rappelling.
