The Carnic Main Ridge runs along the border between Carinthia and Italy, a long limestone crest above the Gailtal with peaks such as the Trogkofel, the Rosskofel, the Kellerspitzen and the Pal Piccolo (Kleiner Pal). It offers a mix of alpine multi-pitch routes and short, sunny crags, often with views into both countries. Around the Plöckenpass, routes on the Pal Piccolo such as the six-pitch "Lésteta e il biottico" (VII) start only a few minutes from the road, while the Trogkofel near the Nassfeld is known for longer limestone walls.
The Plöckenpass (1,360 m) is reached from Kötschach-Mauthen on the B 111, with parking directly at the pass; Kötschach-Mauthen and the Nassfeld region are the usual bases. The climbing season runs mainly from May to September. Bring a 70 m rope for the modern multi-pitch routes.
Part of Carinthia, Carnic Main Ridge has 41 routes documented on climbing.place. Routes range from grade 3 to 8+/9-. Explore its 15 crags and sectors below.
Often climbed in June, July, August.
