The St. Ilgnerweg on Hochschwab is a true alpine classic, located in the Hochschwab massif of Styria, Austria. Graded 5+ (UIAA), it's a legendary, long, and demanding multi-pitch route. Spanning over 1000 meters and often more than 30 pitches, it offers an incredible journey up the impressive south face. The route is known for its exposed climbing, excellent rock quality in many sections, and continuous challenge. Climbers are treated to breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding Austrian Alps. While the grade might not sound extreme, the sheer length, the alpine environment, and the sometimes sparse protection require solid multi-pitch experience, good route-finding skills, and strong endurance. It's a memorable adventure that combines historical significance with an unforgettable alpine experience.
